How does medical elective travel insurance differ from normal travel insurance?
You’ve worked out where you want to go, booked flights, sorted your funding, made sure your passport is in date and arranged all the other necessaries… but wait, you still need to arrange your insurance…
Medical elective insurance. It’s a jungle out there. Before your adventure begins there are so many things to take into account when choosing the most appropriate cover for your trip.
Other than the price of your cover, have you considered other factors that set apart all the different travel policies that are out there?
Traditional travel policies cover all types of different features like; medical expenses, missed or delayed departure and loss of luggage which are all important features, but what is most important is finding cover that is specifically designed to protect you during your medical elective abroad.
4 key features of medical elective insurance that you may not have thought of…
1. Exams Re-sits – Some students may have to cancel their placement due to having to retake exams. This is definitely not covered by a normal travel insurance policy.
2. Medical Expenses Cover – Some insurers may not cover students that have an injury or illness whilst doing their placement abroad as they are working and not fully qualified.
3. Portable Medical Equipment – Students may take medical equipment with them on their medical elective. This will also need to be taken into account to be covered.
4. Sporting/Hazardous Activities – Activities such as scuba diving, kayaking and high-altitude climbing are not always included in traditional travel insurance.
