How easily could you replace a broken laptop, lost phone or stolen bike?
Student life can be tight on the purse strings as it is, without having to have an “emergency” fund for if something goes pear shaped. That’s what insurance is for.
We believe it’s important for BMA student members to have specialist student insurance in place, so spilling coffee on your laptop or losing your phone, isn’t as big a disaster as it seems.
Here are our three reasons to buy specialist insurance for BMA students;
1. Accidents happen
While it’s easy to think that you don’t need it, you just don’t know when accidents are going to occur. Student and graduate cover for BMA members covers your possessions while you’re staying in halls of residence or a shared house, including:
• Individual items up to £1,500
• Gadgets up to £5,000
• Pedal bikes up to £500
• Contents covered throughout the UK (up to 30 days worldwide)
• No restriction in policy cover for unoccupied rooms for up to 60 days
• Tenant and personal liability cover
Full policy cover and exclusions can be found on our policy documents page
2. Your parents insurance isn’t always enough
It’s a common misconception that your belongings will be covered under your parents’ home insurance – this isn’t always the case. Standard home insurance may only cover a couple of your belongings against theft for example, but may not provide accidental damage or liability cover.
3. What happens if you can’t finish your course?
Because BMA student and graduate cover is designed with you in mind, it takes into account things that an average home insurance policy doesn’t. This includes:
• Rent and tenancy agreement fees paid should you be unable to finish your course due to ill health or injury
• Costs of exam re-sits if your course material is lost, damaged or stolen
• Tuition and exam fees paid for if you’re unable to finish your course due to ill health or injury
• Loss, damage to or theft of medical books and equipment
• Loss of data and coursework if your laptop or PC breaks
